Observes approaching trains and moves switches on control panel to set traffic signals and to activate track switches that regulate traffic. Receives and transmits switching orders by telephone or telegraph. May control track switches and train signals at junction point on rapid-transit or street-railway line and be designated Interlocking Tower Operator (r.r. trans.).
