Tends equipment that removes metallic salts from gelatin solutions: Opens valves to control flow of hot water through jackets on exchangers (columns) to preheat equipment to prevent premature coagulation of gelatin solution. Connects gelatin-solution hoses to exchangers and pumps gelatin from storage tank through exchangers. Reads gauges to determine pressure in exchangers and adjusts valves as required to maintain specified pressure. Reads dial to determine pH (acid concentration) of solution and adjusts valve that controls flow of acid to maintain pH necessary to convert metallic salts in gelatin solution into acids that are absorbed by synthetic resins contained in exchangers. Pumps gelatin solution from exchangers to storage tank. Mixes solutions of acid and alkali and pumps solution through exchangers to wash metallic salts from synthetic resins and regenerate system. Turns valves to admit condensate that removes excess acid and alkali. Reads dial that indicates pH of regenerating solution and adjusts valves to maintain specified pH.
