"Some athletes are bigger, faster, stronger, and smarter than others--but not a single person has a corner on dreams, desire, or ambition" Coach Duffy Daugherty

Bill Jones has often been described as the complete basketball player, a "do everything" kind of guy. That was his role on the 1962 New England and state championship team, and it was the one he continued to play in the years that followed at Hartford High and Fairfield University.

On Coach Joe Kubachka's historic club, his trademark was making the "big play" when it counted. In 1963, his senior year, Bill served as the Owls' team captain.

In his years at Fairfield, Bill scored 976 points, played every position, and was once described by Coach George Bisacca as "the best player I've ever coached." In 1968, he won the "Tap Off Club" Major College Player Award and was named to the All-New-England College Team.

Active in local sports, Bill was a founder of the Greater Hartford Summer Basketball League and played for the New Haven Elms and the East Hartford Explorers. Bill retired from the Southern New England Telephone Company in 1993 after 25 years' service.
